Cleveland County, NC (November 1, 2018) – State troopers are still working on their investigation into a pedestrian accident that took the life of a young child. The child has since been identified by police.

The accident took place in the early morning hours of Monday, October 29. The child was struck and killed by a vehicle in rural Cleveland County. The accident happened around 6 a.m. in the 1800 block of South Post Road just south of Shelby.

The toddler was killed after he walked out into traffic and was struck by a vehicle. The toddler has since been identified as 2-year-old Bruce Fleming. Bruce was about to celebrate his birthday this Saturday.

Troopers said that, thus far, they have determined that the boy wandered away from his home about 100 yards away. The boy had been wearing a dark shirt and that he walked into the road, where two vehicles struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A driver noticed the boy on the shoulder of the road. The family believes that he slipped out of the home, when the boy’s grandmother left to take the boy’s father to work. The family had been sleeping at the time.
