Marion, NC – One Dead in Head-On Crash NC-221 South

Marion, NC (November 25, 2018) – A crash in Marion on Saturday, November 24th left one person dead.  The crash happened.

Marion, NC (November 25, 2018) – A crash in Marion on Saturday, November 24th left one person dead.  The crash happened around 10:08 am on North Carolina 221 South.

The Marion Police Department arrived on scene to investigate the crash.  Police say that Ivan Portal of Miami, Florida was driving a tractor-trailer northbound when he entered an intersection.  Portal’s tractor-trailer collided with a 2014 Kia Sportage traveling in the opposite direction.

There were a total of five passengers in the Sportage at the time of the crash. All five were transported to Mission Hospital in Asheville.  The driver was later pronounced dead.  Police have not identified the victim at this time pending next-of-kin notification.

The crash remains under investigation.
