Cartersville, GA – One Person Dead After Fatal Garbage Truck Accident

Cartersville, GA (December 26, 2018) – Georgia State Patrol is working on their investigation into a fatal garbage truck accident.

Cartersville, GA (December 26, 2018) – Georgia State Patrol is working on their investigation into a fatal garbage truck accident that happened today, December 26 in Cartersville.

The accident, according to police, took place near the intersection of Church Street and Jones Street. The 911 call came in today around 1:05 p.m. when a caller claimed that one person was fatally pinned when the vehicle ran into a utility pole.

Police gathered information that the driver of the truck had been trying to back up. The city employee driving the vehicle pinned the individual, who was identified as an inmate on work detail. The victim was then identified as 43-year-old Lester Robert Baker. Baker had been volunteering for sanitation duties.

No charges are pending against the driver at this time. The victim was reportedly transported to the hospital but lost his life due to his injuries.

Police continue their investigation into the matter at this time.
