Athens, GA (November 30, 2018) – This morning around 6:35 a.m., a woman was struck by a patrol vehicle in a pedestrian accident in Athens and was left with serious injuries. The Athens-Clarke County police officer was on his way to work at the time.
The collision happened at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and North Avenue. The officer had a green light and turned onto MLK Parkway, which is when he struck the 54-year-old woman while she was in the crosswalk.
The officer got out of their vehicle and provided treatment to her until National EMS arrived and took her to the hospital. Thankfully, police say that she is expected to survive. The woman reportedly suffered a variety of fractures.
Police continue their investigation into the accident.
