Bartow County, GA – Woman Charged in Connection with Fatal Accident

Bartow County, GA (November 19, 2018) – In Bartow County, a fatal accident involving three vehicles took place yesterday, November.

Bartow County, GA (November 19, 2018) – In Bartow County, a fatal accident involving three vehicles took place yesterday, November 18, and one woman has since been charged. The Cedartown woman responsible for the accident was identified as 73-year-old Evelyn Dolores Nowell.  

Nowell was charged with vehicular homicide in the first degree, driving under the influence, and a variety of other charges following the Interstate 75 accident. At the time of the accident, police say that a Chevy Impala was stopped in the right lane near the Groovers Landing overpass around 11:55 p.m. last night. Nowell had been driving under the influence and improperly stopped her vehicle in the middle of the road.

Bartow County, GA – Woman Charged in Connection with Fatal AccidentA tractor-trailer was traveling in the right line and had to swerve into the other lane to miss her vehicle. This is when the truck struck the side of the Chevy and a Honda Accord. The Accord had been parked off the side of the road.

A passenger inside the Honda, 56-year-old Bobbie Whitman, died at the scene of the accident. Its driver, 49-year-old Robert Whitman, was transported to the hospital and is listed in critical condition at this time. There was also an 8-year-old in the vehicle who was not injured. The 32-year-old driver of the truck, 32-year-old Brian Walker, also didn’t receive injuries.

Nowell is now charged for the accident as police continue to investigate.
