Berkeley County, SC (November 14, 2018) – In Berkeley County on Tuesday, November 13, a passenger lost their life in a fatal accident on Highway 17A near an intersection.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene at Royle Road to find that 20-year-old Lauren Hickman of Summerville lost her life. She was involved in a two-car accident in the intersection around 6:55 p.m. Police say that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
At the time of the accident, Eric Ramsey had been driving his 2004 pickup truck northbound and struck a four-door sedan while it was making a left-hand turn onto Royle Road from the highway. Ramsey sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.
The driver of the sedan was identified as Matthew Seay, who also sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital. However, Hickman, who was a passenger in his vehicle, lost her life at the scene. She was entrapped in the vehicle when emergency responders arrived.
The Highway Patrol continues to investigate at this time.
We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Lauren Hickman at this time, as we know just how difficult it is to lose somebody closest to you in a serious accident. We were saddened to hear about this accident and hope that you will be able to find peace.
