Berkeley County, SC (November 14, 2018) – In Berkeley County on Tuesday, November 13, a passenger lost their life in a fatal accident on Highway 17A near an intersection.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene at Royle Road to find that 20-year-old Lauren Hickman of Summerville lost her life. She was involved in a two-car accident in the intersection around 6:55 p.m. Police say that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

At the time of the accident, Eric Ramsey had been driving his 2004 pickup truck northbound and struck a four-door sedan while it was making a left-hand turn onto Royle Road from the highway. Ramsey sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.

The driver of the sedan was identified as Matthew Seay, who also sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital. However, Hickman, who was a passenger in his vehicle, lost her life at the scene. She was entrapped in the vehicle when emergency responders arrived.

The Highway Patrol continues to investigate at this time.
