Blacksburg, SC (October 15, 2018) – This Monday morning at approximately 9:46 AM an accident involving a black 2010 Chevrolet.

Blacksburg, SC (October 15, 2018) – This Monday morning at approximately 9:46 AM an accident involving a black 2010 Chevrolet SUV and a 1996 Mack truck resulted in one death and two injuries. The accident took place at the intersection of Bridges Road and Turner Road in Blacksburg. The fatality has since been identified as Thomas Leroy Blackwell, 71. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident was determined to be a failure to yield the right-of-way on the part of Blackwell. Blackwell was attempting to turn his SUV across traffic and onto Turner Road when he was hit by the Mack truck headed in his direction on Bridges Road. Blackwell was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. The two passengers that were riding in the SUV sustained injuries from the crash and were immediately flown to Spartanburg Medical Center for medical treatment. The driver of the Mack truck, whose name has not been released, was not hurt.

An autopsy will be performed in order to assist the police with their ongoing investigation.
