75-year-old Vernon Thomas Love failed to stop in traffic, causing him to strike the back of another car and sending that one into the back of yet another car around 11 a.m. The North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the accident.

Love was cited for failing to reduce speed. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of back and leg pain, and other injuries were reported as well.

Authorities said that this and many other accidents took place due to drivers not paying attention in the holiday traffic that caused congestion on North Carolina roads all week.
