Canton, GA (December 11, 2018) – Police say that four people received injuries in a head-on collision that took place this morning involving a garbage truck and a bus on Bells Ferry Road.

At the time the bus, owned by the Cherokee Area Transportation System, was traveling north on the roadway in the area of the Little River Bridge when the garbage truck veered over the center lane going in the opposite direction. This caused the two vehicles to collide head-on.

The driver of the bus, identified as 45-year-old Deana Harber, was quickly transported to the Northside Hospital Cherokee for treatment of her injuries. 58-year-old Stewart Sutton was the only passenger on the bus and also taken to the hospital for treatment.

Two people in the garbage truck, identified as the driver and passenger, were also taken to the hospital. The driver was 49-year-old Dwight Holcomb and the passenger was 37-year-old Stephanie Bass.

The local Sheriff’s Office indicated that Holcomb might have swerved to avoid striking the back of a vehicle that slowed down in front of the truck. Holcomb has since been cited for failure to maintain his lane.

Police continue their investigation at this time.

We would like to offer our sincerest sympathies to those involved in this accident and hope that they will recover from their injuries quickly.
