Charlotte, NC (December 14, 2018) – Police have identified one person in a fatal pedestrian accident that took place on Tuesday evening in east Charlotte when he was trying to cross the street.
At the time, police say that 29-year-old Michael Putnam was trying to cross East WT Harris Boulevard by the concrete median in the area when he was suddenly struck by a vehicle. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
Since Tuesday when the pedestrian was struck, police investigated the accident and found that speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash and they have not charged the driver for anything. Police say that the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing at the time and the driver did not take notice to him.
Early Wednesday morning, Putnam was tragically pronounced deceased in the hospital. Detectives are still investigating the accident in full.
We understand how detrimental these cases can be and want the family of Michael Putnam to have time to heal and process these deeply devastating events. We want you to know that our sincere condolences are with you at this time.
