Cherokee County, GA (December 10, 2018) – A man from Lyerly was killed in a fatal two-vehicle crash that led to the fatalities of an elderly couple on Friday night in Cherokee County.
Emergency responders were called to the scene of the accident and found that 82-year-old Jerry Cox suffered from extensive injuries in the crash and sadly passed away at the scene. His wife was immediately transported to a trauma center. 81-year-old Patricia Cox was to severely injured and died at the hospital. The medical examiner said that Mr. and Mrs. Cox tragically passed away because of multiple blunt force trauma injuries that they suffered in the crash.
The accident took place December 7 round 8:11 p.m. at the intersection of Chestnut Bypass and East Main Street. 58-year-old Charles Owen Lang was booked on DUI and manslaughter charges. He remains in prison without bond at this time.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
