Colleton County, SC – One Person Identified After Fatal Pedestrian Crash

Colleton County, SC (November 15, 2018) – Police say that an individual who lost their life in a fatal pedestrian.

Colleton County, SC (November 15, 2018) – Police say that an individual who lost their life in a fatal pedestrian crash has since been identified. The individual was struck by a motor vehicle on the Charleston Highway.

The pedestrian has since been identified as 54-year-old Barney Joe Wiggins Jr. He died at the scene of the crash on the Charleston Highway near the area of Rodeo Drive.

The cause of death was deemed severe trauma. Police say that Wiggins had been walking westbound around 8:30 p.m. when he was suddenly struck by a westbound SUV driven by a woman from Walterboro. Police confirmed that the woman was not injured in the accident.

Wiggins did not have any identification on him, but police were able to find pieces of a cell phone on the roadway. They pieced it back together to gain contact information and identify the man.
