Decatur, GA. (October 03, 2018) – A car accident on Thursday in Decatur left one child in critical condition, one adult injured, and another under arrest. The incident took place at a stoplight at the intersection of Midway Road and South Candler Street.

A source inside the Decatur Police Department a vehicle driven by Michelle Wierson, 52, of Avondale Estates violently struck a 2011 Toyota Corolla that was stopped for a red light on Midway Road. Wierson then continued into the intersection where she struck a 2007 Dodge Caliber. Wierson then proceeded to exit her vehicle, run in and out of the traffic and behave in a very erratic manner. An off-duty DeKalb County police officer and a MARTA officer who happened to be in the vicinity stopped to assist with the accident.

The Corolla contained 5-year-old Martin Jenness and an adult male driver who has not yet been named. Jenness was unresponsive after the collision and the MARTA officer administered CPR until medical transport arrived. The adult male was treated for minor injuries and then released. There is no further word on the driver of the Caliber. Wierson was charged with serious injury by vehicle, driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving, and following too closely. Sadly, on Monday 5-year-old Martin succumbed to his injuries and passed away. Decatur police stated that they will be pressing additional charges against Wierson.
