The accident took place on Interstate 285 on the outer loop in the northbound lanes. The vehicles involved received a variety of damages and ran into the median. One was smashed into in the side-impact collision.

Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene near Chamblee Tucker Road to find that many lanes were blocked and remained blocked for several hours while police managed the scene.
