Spalding County, GA – (October 6, 2018) – A driver attempting to flee police slammed into a pickup truck and killed a passenger Friday morning, October 5. The name of the victim has not been released as of posting.
According to a preliminary report from the Georgia State Patrol, the driver was going about 90 miles per hour on Georgia Highway 16 near Griffin when a trooper spotted him. However, the trooper decided not to follow the car due to the large number of cars on the road and the high speed the driver was traveling at.
Shortly afterward, the unidentified driver proceeded to crash into a pickup truck after sideswiping another car. This sideswipe caused the hit car to crash. The driver of this car was treated at a local hospital and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
After colliding with the pickup truck, the driver came to a stop. The driver, who was not injured during the accident, has been arrested and is in jail on multiple warrants. An investigation is ongoing, and it’s not clear if the deceased victim was in the driver’s vehicle or the pickup truck.
