North Carolina Accidents Caused by Police Pursuit

The risk of car accidents increases substantially when drivers choose to speed. When the police are involved in a high-speed chase on public roads the threat of an accident grows exponentially on behalf of both the police officer and the suspect. A suspect evading police capture may sometimes even intentionally cause accidents and property damage in an effort to slow the police. If your car has been damaged by a suspected criminal fleeing from law enforcement the first thing you want to do is document the event in writing and with pictures, then call your insurance company. The next and possibly most important step you should take is to reach out to a professional accident attorney.

The portion of the law that deals with police pursuits and culpability is very nuanced and can be extremely difficult for someone to fully understand. If you are filing a claim against someone who damaged your property while attempting to evade capture, you want to make sure that you are using every single asset available to you. There is no reason you should be forced to pay for damages in an accident you were not even involved in.
