Durham, NC (December 17, 2018) – Durham Police are still working on their investigation into a pedestrian accident that led.

Durham, NC (December 17, 2018) – Durham Police are still working on their investigation into a pedestrian accident that led to critical injuries caused by a hit-and-run driver.

The accident happened on Saturday around 7 a.m. when 59-year-old Tommy Chance was struck by a vehicle on North Alston Avenue. Police were able to obtain a video surveillance of the scene that showed that Chance was struck by a Pontiac Grand Am.

The driver of the Grand Am stopped for a brief period of time and then kept on driving up North Alston. The hit-and-run driver later returned to the scene of the accident and was identified as Derek Lee Underwood. He told police that he though he hit a deer.

No charges have been filed against the driver and the pedestrian remains in the hospital. Police continue their investigation into the matter at this time.
