Durham, NC (November 2, 2018) – A Durham Police officer was injured in an accident on October 26 by a hit-and-run driver who has not confessed to the crime. The man has since been identified as 36-year-old Antonio Lee Keith.

Keith is now facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony hit-and-run, speeding, reckless driving, and a variety of other charges.

The incident, according to police, took place around 2:30 a.m. after officers attempted to stop Keith, who they found speeding on Old Oxford Highway. He didn’t immediately stop and fled the scene.

An officer tried to approach him but he sped forward and injured the officer. Officers then followed him and found his Mitsubishi, which had wrecked along Dearborn Drive.

The officer who was injured in the accident was taken to the hospital with head and facial injuries. He has been released from the hospital since and is still recovering.

Police continue to investigate the accident at this time.
