Evans, GA (October 28, 2018) – In Evans, an 11-year-old fell victim to a hit-and-run accident. The accident took place near the Lakeside Middle School on Halifax Drive.
The 11-year-old, Elijah Florence, had been walking home from school when he was suddenly struck by a car that then fled the scene. Elijah originally thought that his injuries were worse but he did receive a broken foot.
Police say that the vehicle swerved over and struck the boy, knocking off the passenger side mirror due to the force of the impact. Police were able to catch up to the driver, who was then identified as 37-year-old Gary Vaughn Prescott.
Police say that Prescott admitted that he had been drinking and he mixed his alcohol with prescription drugs, which caused him to drive erratically. He received a variety of charges as a result.
The accident took place on Friday, October 26 but police continue to investigate at this time.
