Columbus County, NC (December 12, 2018) – Firefighters in North Carolina responded to an accident, only for a rage-fueled crime to take place that ended with a pedestrian accident.

Firefighters initially received a call around 10 p.m. Monday night to find that a disabled car was sitting on the shoulder of Highway 74/76 in Columbus County. A family had been on their way to North Carolina making a move to the state when a tire suddenly fell off their vehicle. Firefighters tried to move the vehicle, which is when a tractor-trailer came speeding down the road and was unable to stop in time.

The truck smashed into the fire rescue vehicle before it struck the stranded vehicle, which caused an explosion. The truck just missed two first responders who could have lost their lives. Firefighters immediately put up a barricade and there were delays in the area.

At that time, somebody broke through the barricade with their vehicle. Firefighters asked them to turn around, but the female in the passenger’s seat pulled out a gun and pointed it at the first responders. The car’s driver then lurched forward and struck one of the firefighters on scene. He was dragged for quite some time along the highway and suffered an array of injuries.

Authorities continue their investigation of the incident. The driver fled the scene and they are searching for the individuals responsible.

We would like to take a moment to extend our sincere and heartfelt thoughts and prayers to those injured in this traumatizing accident and hope that they will recover during this difficult time.
