Tractor Trailer Accidents In Georgia

An auto accident involving a tractor-trailer can be a life-changing event, and not for the better. Not only are tractor-trailers huge, behemoth vehicles that require special training and licensure to drive but the people that operate them frequently have huge distances to travel in relatively short periods of time. This strain makes them susceptible to things like distracted driving, speeding, highway hypnosis, and general fatigue.

Accidents involving semi-trucks are usually much, much worse than a standard automobile collision because of the sheer size and weight of the truck. Factor in even minimum highway speed limits and you have a genuine recipe for unmitigated disaster. In cases like this where you plan to sue for damages and/or personal injury, you need to figure out if you are going to sue the driver of the commercial truck, the trucking company for whom he works, or possibly both. Figuring out which of these three approaches is the correct one for your specific situation is vital to having the lawsuit turn out in your favor.

A few of the most important pieces of information that you will need to go ahead with such a lawsuit are for the truck driver to be found at fault, and for the truck driver to actually be an employee of the company and not an independent contractor. More often than not the trucking company and their insurance bedfellows will try and place 100% of the blame squarely on the driver’s shoulders whether it belongs there or not.
