Gaston County, NC (November 16, 2018) – In Gaston County, one person lost their life in a wrong-way accident during.

Gaston County, NC (November 16, 2018) – In Gaston County, one person lost their life in a wrong-way accident during the rush hour on Interstate 85 last evening, November 15.

At the time of the accident, an elderly man was driving a gray Nissan north in the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a Ford Fiesta in the area of Exit 12. The elderly man was identified as 70-year-old Terry Ellenburg. Ellenberg was taken to the hospital with injuries, while the other driver, 57-year-old David Young, passed away due to severe trauma.

Two other patients were also treated in the accident, one of which sustained life-threatening injuries.

Ellenburg’s family, from Forest City, says that he suffers from dementia. Earlier that day, family members contacted the police in reference to his condition. The interstate was closed down for an hour and police continue to investigate the accident.
