Gastonia, NC (December 20, 2018) – In Gastonia, a man was charged with DUI following a car accident where he rear-ended a vehicle carrying two small children this morning. The children received injuries, according to police.

The accident took place around 7 a.m. this morning on Garrison Boulevard. 11-year-old Jaryan Wright and 7-year-old Nylah Huff were immediately transported to the hospital after the serious rear-end accident that completely totaled the vehicle they had been traveling in at the time. They received critical injuries, according to police.

Investigators said that a Nissan Sentra had been stopped at a traffic light with the children inside when 57-year-old Clifford Scoggin was in his Dodge Ram and ran into the back of their vehicle. The impact was so forceful that the vehicle was pushed into an SUV in front of it.

Bystanders helped the children’s mother, Amy Wright, get out of her vehicle. Her children were stuck in the back. The little girl received cuts and bruises while the 11-year-old suffered a severe brain injury.

Scoggin has since been charged for the accident and police continue their investigation.
