Troopers said that the driver of a vehicle struck a bicyclist on Woodruff Road near the Anderson Bridge around 7:30 p.m. that night and fled the scene, never stopping to check on them. The cyclist was heading east when they were struck from behind by another vehicle. The roadway was blocked for several hours following the accident.

The cyclist has since been identified as 41-year-old Benjamin McCall. He was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.

The vehicle has been described as a burgundy sedan that has front-end damage to the driver’s side.

Police continue to investigate the scene at this time.
