Gwinnett County, GA (December 11, 2018) – Police have identified the driver of a hit-and-run accident who was wanted in connection with the crime that left a woman dead.

The hit-and-run accident took place in a gas station parking lot on Pleasant Hill Road. The pedestrian was identified as 50-year-old Melissa Wheeler, who was killed in the tragic accident when she was struck by a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Anita Mustafi. Mustafi had backed up her vehicle in the BP parking lot and struck Wheeler, then fleeing the scene.

Police investigated and found out that Wheeler and another woman were involved in an altercation with Mustafi before the accident took place. The two other women tried to block her from leaving, which is when she intentionally struck Wheeler.

Wheeler fell to the ground and many people ran over to her. An ambulance came to the scene and took Wheeler away, where she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police tried to find Mustafi at her home but she was not there. They did, however, find the vehicle in connection with the incident. Police continue to search for her at this time and Mustafi faces felony hit-and-run charges.

First and foremost, our attorneys would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Melissa Wheeler, as we understand how difficult it can be to move forward after losing a loved one to the negligence of another.
