Clyde, NC (December 10, 2018) – Troopers responded to Interstate 40 near Exit 7 where they found that a truck hauling pigs had been involved in a rollover accident near Cold Creek Church Road.
The accident happened around the exit at 11 a.m. The driver suffered a variety of serious injuries and was quickly transported to the hospital. He was soon identified as 26-year-old Lucas Mitchell of Illinois.
Troopers said that some of the pigs who had been on the truck at the time were killed in the accident, while some of the others escaped the truck uninjured and were heading up and down the highway in the snow.
Crews attempted to round up the animals and had them completely removed from the scene by 11:40 a.m. The road was closed for quite some time.
Police continue their investigation into the accident.
