Lexington County, SC (October 25, 2018) – A 7-year-old girl and her mother are still recovering following a serious car crash that involved a tractor-trailer in Lexington County. Police responded to the accident on Monday, October 22.
The severe accident caused the young child to fly out of the vehicle and hit the wall of a nearby building. The 7-year-old has thankfully been released from the hospital since last night. Her mother is still in the hospital. Now, witnesses and others are saying that the intersection in that area is not safe and could have contributed to the accident.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said that the two were traveling west in their Toyota Camry on Calks Ferry Road when a tractor-trailer driving east went through the intersection and struck the vehicle in the passenger’s side. 39-year-old Julia Ponce was stuck in the vehicle but her daughter, Elizabeth, was ejected and struck the wall of a building in the area. Julia received multiple broken ribs and a fractured shoulder due to the accident.
The intersection at Calks Ferry Road and U.S. 178 has gotten a bad reputation for years and the family believes that something must be done.
