Lexington, SC (November 29, 2018) – A man was arrested in Lexington after he went on a high-speed chase and struck a deputy with his vehicle. He was located a short time later hiding shirtless in a tree. The deputy was injured.
When police initially made contact with Joseph Allen Tuten is was because they received calls regarding a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a truck stop. As they approached the vehicle they realized that the car was stolen. When Tuten realized the police had arrived he began to accelerate at a high rate of speed and struck an officer, who has been identified as Nicole McElroy. Tuten ran from the vehicle after hitting the policewoman and headed towards a heavily wooded area. Police called in a K-9 Unit and Tuten was located a short time later hiding at the top of a 35-foot tree. He was apprehended without any other problems. He is being charged with multiple multiple offenses.
Nicole McElroy’s injuries are not catastrophic in nature and she is expected to make a full recovery. She is currently being hospitalized for treatment. Our thoughts are with her and her loved ones as she begins the road to recovery. This incident is still under investigation.
