The accident took place this morning around 6:53 a.m. when 31-year-old Officer Jason Quick was helping a driver stranded on the side of the road at exit 22 on Interstate 95. Quick had responded because the car had been involved in an accident and the driver needed assistance.
At that time, a vehicle drove up into the scene and crashed into Quick. Quick was severely injured and multiple fire personnel and officers arrived to help him. He was quickly transported to the Southeastern Regional Medical Center and passed away due to his injuries.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident at this time.
