Martin County, NC (December 11, 2018) – A student from the East Carolina University lost her life and another woman was seriously injured following a head-on collision in Martin County.
The accident happened this morning around 10:00 a.m. on Highway 171 near the intersection of Wainwright Road. 22-year-old Mariah Moore was driving her vehicle along the roadway when her tire blew out and her vehicle crossed the center line.
The other driver of the second vehicle, 18-year-old Morgan Taylor, was struck head-on by the vehicle. Taylor was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries and is expected to recover.
A driver who was traveling in front of Taylor’s vehicle saw light smoke coming from the back of Moore’s vehicle and then saw the two vehicles crash off the sides of the highway. The crash was so severe that it closed the highway for two hours.
Moore died at the scene of the accident, according to police. At this time, police continue their investigation of the accident.
