McDowell County, NC (November 24, 2018) – Around 10 a.m. November 24, the Marion Police Department investigated a fatal accident that led to the death of one at a local intersection.
The accident occurred at the intersection of 221 and 226 south, according to police. McDowell Co. power outages were happening in the area, which meant that the intersection light was not working. Witnesses at the scene said that both vehicles entered into the intersection at the same time.
Iva Portal was driving a tractor-trailer south and a woman from Marion was driving her passenger vehicle south when the two struck one another in the center of the intersection. There were five passengers inside the sedan and all of them were treated for various injuries. The driver, whose name has not yet been released, lost her life in the hospital.
The crash is still under investigation at this time.
