Moncks Corner, SC (November 20, 2018) – Police say that a Moncks Corner police officer was injured in a pedestrian accident around 6 p.m. this week, but is now recovering.
Officer Kathy Edens had been standing in the median of U.S. Highway 17A when she was struck by a vehicle that was attempting a turn. She was immediately taken to the Trident Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. She was admitted to the trauma center but is expected to be okay.
At the time, Edens had been working a two-car accident with two other officers. She was waiting for a tow truck to arrive, which is when she was struck. One of the officers who was with her tried to grab her and pull her to safety. However, she was struck by the vehicle’s mirror and fell to the ground.
The driver stayed at the scene and nobody else was injured. The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues their investigation into the matter at this time.
