NC-18, NC (November 3, 2018) – A man was killed in a fatal accident on early Wednesday morning, October 31. He has since been identified as 69-year-old James Hawkins.
Hawkins was killed when a Dodge pickup truck being driven by 40-year-old Ricky Smith crossed the center line around the area of Laurel Haven Avenue around 7:30 a.m.
Smith received charges for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Speed was a factor in the crash, according to police.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
