Newnan, GA (October 4, 2018) – Wednesday afternoon in Coweta County a man driving along GA 29 North near Wash.

Newnan, GA (October 4, 2018) – Wednesday afternoon in Coweta County a man driving along GA 29 North near Wash Johnson Road was struck by a train on the front passenger side of his car.

When Georgia State Patrol officers along with fire and rescue teams arrived at the scene they found that the man had managed to escape his damaged vehicle which was, at that point, engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished without further incident. The man was flown to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition. Doctors later determined that the injuries he sustained were not life-threatening and he is expected to recover.

Authorities are still trying to determine if the man, whose name has not been released, did not see the train approaching or if he tried to beat it. Neither the train nor its cargo was damaged by the incident.
