Pender County, NC (November 30, 2018) – A woman from Maple Hill was allegedly struck and killed by a truck.

Pender County, NC (November 30, 2018) – A woman from Maple Hill was allegedly struck and killed by a truck along NC 53 in a pedestrian accident outside of Burgaw last night, November 29.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol arrived at the scene of the accident around 5:45 p.m. near the intersection of River Bend Drive. At the time, a 2002 GMC work truck had been traveling east on the highway when it struck 64-year-old Janet Swinson, who had been alongside the road at the time.

Police say that, upon further investigation, Swinson had been attempting to grab a piece of plywood off the shoulder of the road when the vehicle struck her. No charges have been filed in relation to the accident and the investigation continues at this time.

At this time, we would like to extend our sincere condolences to the friends and family of Janet Swinson at this time, who lost her life too soon in a serious accident due to the negligence of others.
