Salisbury, NC (November 19, 2018) – In Salisbury, a severe hit-and-run accident took place that left a woman in serious condition on Lincolnton Road this past week.
The driver who struck the woman, identified as 54-year-old Rhonda Covais, left the scene without checking on her or calling the police. Her daughter Lisa arrived at the scene for her mother, as she had been heading to see her daughter at the time.
According to the report, Covais landed approximately 93 feet away from where she had been standing at the time. She was still conscious but airlifted to the scene with serious injuries. The accident took place around 5:50 p.m. that evening.
Police say that the driver who fled the scene had been in a white sedan at the time. Now, Covais has a serious concussion, brain bleeding, a broken leg, and many lacerations due to the actions of the driver. She is, however, expected to make a recovery.
As of now, police are still searching for the responsible driver and continue to investigate the accident.
