Georgia Parking Lot Accidents

We wish all those injured in this accident a full and quick recovery.

One out of every five accidents occurs in a parking lot. One of the main causes for accidents happening in parking lots is distracted driving. This is driving that takes place while the driver’s focus is somewhere other than the road. The driver may be on their cellphone, adjusting the radio to find a song they like or they may even be focused on the back seat trying to get their kids to settle in. The other main cause of parking lot car crashes is drivers not recognizing, or maybe even not knowing, the right of way laws that exist in parking lots. The slower speeds at which people drive in parking lots and parking garages tend to give them a false sense of security and they drive accordingly.

According to figures put out by the National Safety Council approximately 60,000 injured and 500 die in parking lot and parking garage accidents every year. A recent survey that was conducted in the United States revealed that 66% of people feel comfortable making a phone call while driving through a parking lot, and over 50% felt comfortable enough to send text messages and emails, use various social media platforms, and watch or record videos. 42% of those polled said they would be comfortable video chatting. Equal in numbers to those who are driving distractedly, are those who do not feel the need to be aware of their surroundings before walking through a parking lot, the assumption being that pedestrians are expected so cars will watch out for you.
