One of the biggest problems among South Carolina drivers is the rate of deaths from DUIs. The Palmetto State’s DUI death rate of 6.07 per 100,000 people is the fourth-highest of all 50 states.

Additional findings about South Carolina include:

  • There were 16,272 arrests for DUI in 2014
  • The DUI arrest rate per 100,000 people was 328
  • The percentage of drivers who said they drank too much before driving was 1.6
  • There were 301 drunk driving fatalities in South Carolina in 2014

Despite South Carolina’s poor national ranking, crimes involving DUIs in South Carolina fell nearly 10 percent compared to 2013 statistics, according to the report.
