St. Simons Island, GA – Eric Matherly Killed in Friday Crash

St. Simons Island, GA (November 25, 2018) – One man is dead and another charged with vehicular manslaughter following a crash.

St. Simons Island, GA (November 25, 2018) – One man is dead and another charged with vehicular manslaughter following a crash on Friday, November 23rd in St. Simons Island.

38-year-old Eric Matherly was a passenger in a pickup truck being driven by 46-year-old Jamie Eric Sapp.  Sapp was traveling southbound on I-95 around 10:39 pm when he lost control of his vehicle.  Police said that he was traveling too fast for the roadway conditions at the time.  The truck hydroplaned and struck a bridge railing, killing Matherly. A female passenger in the truck was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The Georgia State Police charged Sapp with vehicular manslaughter. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
