Staley, NC (November 20, 2018) – In Staley, a serious head-on collision took place this morning, November 20, that injured an elementary school teacher from Ramseur Elementary.
Police say that the accident took place on NC Highway 49. At the time, Erica Castillo was driving southwest near Shady Grove Church Road, which is when another driver, identified as Taylor Griffin, crossed the centerline on a curve and struck Castillo’s vehicle head-on. The crash was so forceful that it caused Griffin’s Chevy and Castillo’s SUV to go off the roadway. The SUV went down an embankment.
Castillo was immediately taken to the trauma center with serious injuries. Griffin was taken to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be okay.
Griffin was charged with driving while impaired and a variety of other charges.
