Statesville, NC (November 13, 2018) – On Monday morning, November 12, a fatal truck accident took place that involved a tractor-trailer and a BMW. Police immediately arrived at the scene to investigate.
Police say that the vehicle was traveling east when, for reasons that are not known, it crossed the median and slammed into the tractor-trailer. Both drivers were deceased upon impact, according to police and emergency responders who came to the scene of the accident.
Police investigated further and determined that the drivers who ran into the truck were involved in a hit-and-run when they were making their way from the scene and struck the tractor-trailer. Both vehicles were badly damaged and blocked lanes for quite some time.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident at this time.
We would like to take a moment to extend our condolences to the family and friends of the parties whose lives were taken too soon in this serious accident. We were deeply saddened to hear about this accident and hope that all parties will be able to find comfort at this time.
Fatal Accident in North Carolina
Car accidents are the leading cause of death for people between 3 and 34 across North Carolina. In just our state alone, statistics show that, on average, 93 people will lose their lives every day. This means that, every 16 minutes, another person will pass away after a fatal accident. Though the state is working to reduce these numbers, these accidents continue to happen on our roads and highways.
