Sylvester, GA (December 3, 2018) – Police say that a 59-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Sylvester on Saturday, December 1.
Gerogia State Patrol has identified the pedestrian who died in the accident as Roy Roosevelt James Sr. They say that Mr. James was laying out in middle of the street in the intersection of South Main Street and MLK Jr. Drive for reasons that are still unclear. A driver in a vehicle that was approaching the intersection spotted James just in time and was able swerve to avoid running him over. However, the vehicle that was traveling behind that car, was not able to see James lying in the street until it was too late and was unable to avoid hitting James, as a result.
Both of the drivers and a deputy stopped to render aid to the injured victim. Paramedics rushed Mr. James to the hospital but, sadly, he succumbed to the injuries that he sustained in this pedestrian accident.
No charges have been filed in this incident. At this time, police continue to investigate.
