Union City, GA (December 11, 2018) – The Georgia State Patrol has completed their investigation of a fatal car accident and identified all parties who lost their lives.
The accident took place in Union City when a police car and work van collided with one another, which caused both vehicles to burst into flames. Three people were killed in the incident. Three of the people inside the work van died at the scene of the accident including 22-year-old Clemente Flores, 22-year-old Marcus Martin, and 20-year-old Camerino Sanchez Hernandez.
Three people received serious injuries and were transported to the Grady Memorial Hospital. They are expected to survive. The driver was one of the people who sustained serious injuries, identified as 25-year-old Gilmar Gomez-Lopez of Atlanta.
At the time, an officer had been pursuing a stolen Mercedes-Benz going toward an intersection on Highway 138. At the time, the work van had been making a left turn onto Highway 138, which caused the police car and van to collide.
Police say that the van immediately rolled over and burst into flames, causing the police car to catch on fire as well. While Gomez-Lopez said that he didn’t hear the sirens of the police vehicle, the officer said that his sirens and lights were operating at the time.
Charges are pending in the case at this time.
