Union County, NC (November 11, 2018) – Emergency crews were called to the scene of a fatal accident in Union.

Union County, NC (November 11, 2018) – Emergency crews were called to the scene of a fatal accident in Union County on Thursday, November 8. The accident took place around 12:30 p.m.

Police responded to the intersection of NC Highway 200 and Highway 218 near New Salem. At the time of the accident, Richard Simpson was driving a Ford F-150 when he ran a red light, striking a Chevy Silverado.

Simpson passed away from his injuries in the accident. The driver of the Silverado was not reported to be injured. This was the second fatal accident that happened at an intersection in this area this month.

Police continue to investigate the accident at this time.
