Whitsett, NC (November 9, 2018) – On Thursday night, November 8, one person lost their life in a four-vehicle accident around 6 p.m. on Interstate 40. The North Carolina Highway Patrol quickly arrived at the scene in the eastbound lanes to investigate.
The crash allegedly occurred when a driver in the left lane started merging, which put them directly in the path of a tractor-trailer. The driver who struck the truck then spun out of control, hitting an abandoned vehicle on the side of the road.
The tractor-trailer that was struck hit another vehicle, which sent it flying into a ditch, and then overturned. The driver that was struck by the tractor-trailer died at the scene of the accident. His identity has not been released. There was a passenger inside that vehicle who is expected to be okay.
At this time, the driver who merged and caused the accident has charges pending but is in the hospital recovering from injuries.
We were extremely saddened to hear about this accident, as it is a difficult experience to lose somebody in the event of a serious fatal accident.
