Woodfin, NC (December 28, 2018) – This morning, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety was called to the scene of an 18-wheeler crash involving a police cruiser that left a police officer with injuries.
The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. when officer Christopher Morrow was driving to work. Morrow noticed a vehicle that had been involved in a collision in the travel lane of Interstate 40. Morrow was getting ready to exit his vehicle after pulling over, which is when his police cruiser was suddenly struck from behind by a tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer was being driven by 51-year-old Clarence Powell. Morrow received a variety of injuries and was taken to the Haywood Regional Hospital, but he is expected to recover at this time.
Powell was charged with failure to reduce speed. The driver in the unrelated accident that Morrow had been investigated was taken to the hospital for injuries as well.
