The accident took place at the intersection of East Clay and Crawford Streets. The incident started out as a police chase that happened only blocks away from the accident.

Police said it all started when two deputies noticed a vehicle trying to make an illegal U-turn. The driver sped away in his vehicle as soon as he was pursued by the police. It ran several stop signs. A 50-year-old deputy also went through the stop sign to keep up with the fleeing suspect’s vehicle, which is when the officer was involved in the accident. The deputy was struck in the side by a white pickup truck.

The patrol car then crashed into another vehicle that was parked on the side of Crawford Street. From there, they lost all contact with the suspect vehicle.

Police involved in the accident have released dash cam video in hopes that somebody will be able to come forward with information.

The deputy and driver of the pickup truck were sent to the hospital for injury treatment but they are expected to be okay.
