Atlanta, GA (October 13, 2018) – According to local Georgia state officials, all lanes of Southbound I-285 were closed late Saturday afternoon on October 13, because of an accident that involved an overturned gravel truck near Stone Mountain Freeway. This accident did result in the injuries of at least one person. Atlanta emergency responders were on scene to treat the injured party and to transport them to a local area hospital for further assessment and treatment. The condition of the injured party is not known at this time. The police continue to investigate this accident to determine what caused the truck to tip over.
The southbound lanes of traffic were completely shut down after the incident as officials tried to clean up the loose gravel that had spilled out and covered the roadway. According to Georgia Department of Transportation crews, the gravel truck has been removed from the roadway and clean up is currently underway. Crews are anticipating all debris will be removed from the southbound lanes around 4 p.m. Eastern Time. At this time motorists are advised to take alternate routes. The Georgia State police are still investigating and have not yet determined the cause of the accident.
