Cherokee County, SC (November 23, 2018) – This afternoon, November 23, a woman lost her life in a fatal accident that happened in Cherokee County around an intersection. The woman has since been identified as 56-year-old Velvet Anderson of Gaffney.
Gaffney had been driving a Toyota four-door on Ross Hill around 12:27 p.m. Anderson didn’t stop at the intersection with Pleasant School Road, which caused her to be involved in an accident. She struck an embankment and went airborne before crashing into a tree.
Anderson died at the scene of the accident, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Nobody else was injured in the accident.
Police continue to investigate the accident at this time.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Velvet Anderson at this time, as we understand just how difficult it can be for an entire family to experience one of these serious incidents and have somebody taken from them too soon.
Fatal Accident in South Carolina

These accidents account for 20.5 deaths per 100,000 people in just 2016 alone, and these rates have only increased over the past few years. Why do these accidents occur? Texting and driving is one of the biggest reasons, but drunk driving and speeding are two other aspects that play a role.
