Charleston, SC (October 20, 2018) – At approximately 8:45 PM on Friday the Charleston Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to a crash on the I-26 west near mile marker 218.
Witnesses reported a group of motorcycles traveling south across the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge just before the collision. The motorcycles were described as driving aggressively and at extremely high rates of speed. When they entered a natural curve in the roadway one of the drivers lost control of his bike and slammed into the guardrail. The driver, Kevin Cornell, 30, of Summerville was thrown from his bike and landed in a parking lot below the elevated interstate highway.
Cornell died at the scene due to crash-related injuries. The accident is still under investigation.
South Carolina Speeding Accidents
Fewer accidents are as deadly as one where high rates of speed are involved. These accidents happen in the blink of an eye and are due to the reckless actions of other drivers on the road. Speeding accidents have an extremely high rate of injuries and fatalities.
